Who'll be Dissapointed by the Sanyo DVR H200 DVD Recorder?

(Reviewed 12/20/06) The Sanyo DVR H200 DVD recorder features an integrated hard disc of 160 GB. It also records and plays various media, including CDs.

This Sanyo DVD recorder has 5 recording modes that range from high quality mode, to a SLP mode which is almost unwatchable. The HQ and SP modes offer excellent video quality, the resolution drops off in the next two modes (LP and EP) but the recordings are still watchable. You should know that when you dub from HDD to DVD you cannot change the recording mode in which the recording was made.

As mentioned the Sanyo DVR H200 DVD recorder comes with this innovation: the ability to record CDs on hard disc. The CDs cannot be edited and have to be copied as they are. The unit also has a DV input to connect to a camcorder. The Sanyo DVR-H200 DVD recorder also enables you to burn both video and audio media on CDs.

Although the Sanyo DVR H200 DVD recorder does allow you to watch the beginning of a program that is still being recorded it won’t allow you to play a DVD while the DVD recorder is recording a program to the hard disc. Additionally you cannot watch a previously recorded show from the HDD while doing this recording. You are stuck with what you are recording at the moment.

Editing video with H200 is easy especially since there are not many editing options available. The recordings on HDD are organized into audio, photo and video categories. The Sanyo DVR H200 DVD recorder also adds chapters to HDD and DVD titles automatically.

The connectivity of Sanyo DVD recorder is highlighted by the i.Link input. It also has the following connections:: 1 s-video output (no inputs, however), 1 composite video output and 1 composite video input, 1 component video output, digital optical and coaxial audio outputs.

The Sanyo DVR H200 DVD recorder’s design is not outstanding. It weighs only 4,5 Kg, so it is a little smaller than other similar DVD recorders. The top part of the front panel is black, while the rest of it is silver. On the front panel there are two buttons that control Sanyo’s two decks. The remote control is easy to use. It has a useful one-touch button for recording. The Sanyo is easy to use because it lacks options that typically complicate DVD recorders.

Conclusion :This DVD/HDD recorder lacks a few important features, but it may prove useful, especially for those buyers who want to use the DVD recorder to play or record various types of media. The Sanyo DVR H200 DVD recorder offers good recording quality and is very easy to use. This is not recommended for high end DVD recording. Videophiles will be disappointed.
