MAGNAVOX H2160MW9

Is This Magnavox DVD Recorder Right For You?

standalone dvd recorder (Reviewed 5/23/10) If you choose to go with a Magnavox DVD Recorder your probably in the middle ground of the DVD recorder market. Let’s call them the Chevrolet of the DVD recorders. The Magnavox ZV427MG9 VHS/ DVD Recorder (Full review) is a good example of this. In some functions it excels but it lacks the other frills that are standard on the Pioneers, Pannies and Toshibas.

We’re happy to say that the Magnavox H2160MW9 DVD Recorder gets an above average rating from consumers. This is one of their top of the line machines. The more of these machines that are built with hard drives made by diverse companies the better our choices (and prices) will be.

For recording TV shows and other video content, DVD recorders are a familiar component in computers. However, standalone DVD recorders are still fairly new but are set to replace your set-up VCRs especially in high definition home theaters.

Therefore, if you are looking to replace your VCR with a state-of-the-art new DVD recorder, check out the Magnavox DVD recorders like the H2160MW9. Long-time American electronics company Magnavox has manufactured record players (called gramophones), TVs, and even video game consoles.

The H2160MW9 by Magnavox offers a DVD Recorder with ATSC/NTSC/clear QAM digital tuner that not only records programs for DVD output but also plays other DVDs. A built-in 160 GB hard drive also provides owners with plenty of room to store their media into before committing them to DVD. 160 GB is indeed lots of hard drive capacity to work with. It also features stereo output and that famous Dolby Digital output.

The menu is intuitive and the remote control easy to use. Setup is easy even for someone who has never used a DVD recorder and experienced consumers will likely skip the instructions altogether. The menu lets you set the recorder timer to capture multiple shows on a daily or weekly basis. The unit allows you to connect to it other devices that have video/audio connection such as a camera or game units.

If you usually get your TV programs over the air, then the competing tunerless DVD recorders that are also in the market will not be right for you. This model comes with a digital tuner so you can access broadcast TV. It even records upcoming programs with no problems. What’s more, if someone else in your family tries to change the channel, it will warn them that a recording is in progress or will be in the next hour.

With the 160 GB hard drive, you can also hit pause on a live TV program if you need to go to the bathroom or answer a phone call without missing a beat. Try recording one program to the hard drive and another to a DVD—both will work!

You might not even require a DVD with all the room the MAGNAVOX H2160MW9 DVD Recorder gives you. What’s more, you can dub from HDD to DVD or DVD to HDD. Furthermore, we truly appreciated the fact that you can edit your recordings or remove those annoying commercials before you burn the program to DVD. Having your own DVD recorder means no more paying DVR rental to a cable or satellite company – a savings that can eventually make up for the cost of buying a recorder.

This model is certainly light years ahead of the VCR and even years ahead of the standard DVD recorders in the market. For those looking to replace their old VHS recorders, this DVD recorder is a good choice. Amazon has the MAGNAVOX H2160MW9 and it's a safe place on the internet to buy any products. Also, if you are not as tech savvy as you would like, this Magnavox DVD recorder is the perfect choice. For the price, which can run between $270 new and $140 refurbished, this DVD recorder is a good buy.

The MAGNAVOX MDR513H is a similar model with a much larger hard drive. Read the MAGNAVOX MDR513H review here.
