The JVC MH30 DVD recorder a remarkable machine.

The JVC MH30 DVD recorder has a 160G hard drive. You can record 34 hours of programs at the highest picture quality.

This is an older generation DVD recorder. Check the latest JVC DVD Recorder.

The JVC MH30 DVD Recorder

At the lowest quality setting you can record up to 272 hours. It has 32 timer events and supports mp3 playing.

Like most DVD recorders today you can make copies of your home movies using the DV Input from a FireWire equipped camcorder or one of its A/V inputs. There are no RGB or component inputs (but it does have S-Video).

The JVC DVD recorder's manual is clearly written and the machine (considering its extra features) is easy to use. The more complicated tasks require the owner’s manual which does a good job of explaining them.

Once you learn how to operate the many features it has you’ll find this DVD recorder to be a remarkable machine. Picture quality on the JVC MH30 DVD recorder is remarkably good. The six hour mode is better than a VHS tape at its best setting. In a pinch you get acceptable results in the eight hour mode.

The component progressive output quality of this DVD recorder is superb. The editing and dubbing capabilities are acceptable. It uses a Bit Rate Optimizer for dubbing quality from HDD to DVD VCR Plus+ C3, Record Link (HDD).

When you record a program to the hard drive, it monitors the amount of movement in the image, and then when you dub it to DVD, it continually adjusts the bit rate to optimize the picture quality

The manual doesn’t tell you this but this DVD recorder can read +R and +RW discs. It also displays on its LCD front panel display whether the DVD is an +RW or +R.

The dubbing to disc time takes too long on this DVD recorder. The manual says the DVD recorder can do high speed dubbing but I had no luck with it. The JVC MH30 DVD recorder takes about 3 seconds to change channels when the Live HDD Memory mode is enabled. This feature can be disabled.

The JVC MH30 DVD recorder’s remote can’t do instant timer recording.
