Expensive DVD VCR Recorders are a waste of money see why this one's a good choice
(Reviewed 11/21/10) This combination DVD VCR recorder is one of the better choices out there for converting your old tapes into DVDs. The Toshiba DVR620
provides the choice of watching your old VHS tapes directly or it allows you to convert the tapes into the DVD format for better picture quality and longevity.

How does it accomplish this? This DVD VCR player upconverts those old grainy VHS tapes into pristine DVD format. This is a really cool feature. Let's face anything that converts that old VCR footage into DVD quality video rocks! Almost like dragging analog into the digital age. It's The Toshiba DVR620 DVD VCR

I've seen complaints about the complicated manual instructions and complicated remote controls. Although the manual is somewhat complicated this recorder can be easy to use if you follow along and try a few recordings. The remote control is fine. It's easy to use with lots of functions.
This recorder has one HDMI output cable for both DVD and VHS replay. Replay quality in standard play speed is good for DVD's. In XP mode there is no difference in quality between the actual broadcast vs the recording. It looks identical.
It is important to note that this recorder does not have any tuners which was not a deal breaker for me. So big deal you'll need an external tuner to record TV shows. Who doesn't own a cable box or a dish box these days?
I've read on line that customer service agents at Toshiba were very knowledgeable and did an excellent job of explaining or giving advice.
