Sony RDR-VX560 dvd vcr combo

Does This Sony DVD VCR Combo Live Up To The Sony Name?

(Reviewed 2/6/10) A DVD VCR combo device is a great transition for those who aren’t yet ready to let go of the old VHS format. Many people have extensive video cassette libraries but are resistant to change to DVD – the Sony RDR-VX560 provides the solution to this problem, allowing recording and playback in both formats and the dubbing of footage from DVD to VHS tape and vice versa.

The Sony RDR-VX560 1080p DVD VCR Combo Recordercould easily be the simplest and most user-friendly unit on the market for dubbing footage from VHS to DVD and vice versa. It offers excellent playback quality on new televisions due to its upconversion features, and also provides a great playback experience on older TVs. It’s a perfect solution for a family with a stack of old home movies recorded on VHS tapes that need to be updated to DVD for future preservation and enjoyment.

You don’t have to be a technology expert to know that VCRs are going the way of the dinosaur, and many companies are even beginning to phase out DVD VCR combo machines. This unit provides a great chance to preserve those memories before VHS technology becomes completely extinct.

This DVD recorder can playback and record the DVD-R/RW and DVD-R+/RW formats. It can also playback DVD-RAM format discs, although it does not include the capability of recording in this format. It’s also capable of playing Audio and Video CDs, as well as displaying JPEG photos – great for creating a slideshow out of a series of family photos from your digital camera.

The DVD recorder also features a USB interface and iLink input for importing photos straight from a USB device or digital camera. The upconversion feature of this DVD recorder means you can watch old movies from both DVD and VHS tapes in a quality you may have never seen before. With an HDMI interface and an HDTV you can watch your old favorites in high resolution.

This DVD VCR combo recorder has the capabilities for VHS and DVD footage to upconvert to 780p, 1080i or 1080p resolution, giving your VHS viewing experience a whole new level of depth. The end results are limited by the TV set the unit is linked up to, but if you have an HDTV you will be blown away by the lift in picture quality on old videos.

One of the only major downsides of this unit is the lack of an integrated tuner. This means that in order to pick up unscrambled digital TV signals you will need an external tuner such as a cable box. Without this external device you won't be able to pick up and record digital TV.

Conclusion: It’s time to accept that VHS tapes are on their way out. If you have a home library of cassettes that you want to preserve for the future on DVD, this DVD VCR combo recorder will take care off all your needs. It will also allow you to watch those old tapes with a quality you’ve never experienced before. It’s easy to use for those unfamiliar with recording technology.
