The Sony SVR-HD700 PVR Gets High DVD Recorder Ratings
(Reviewed 10/12/06) Once again, Sony has released a product that scored great with DVD recorder ratings: the Sony SVR-HD700 PVR.
Sony’s latest PVR is one personal video recorder that packs a mean punch in features with a contemporary design that should blend easily into any home theater. DVD recorder ratings are high with the silver chassis and black accents that give Sony’s latest PVR a distinguished modern look and with a dimension of 430mm by 80mm by 30mm, this classy PVR could fit easily into most home theater cabinets.
The front panel display listed useful information like the type of audio signal you are receiving, the playing or remaining time, the current channel, remaining disk space, status of playing/recording and a useful clock.
A blue LED placed in the center above the display which becomes illuminated when the Sony SCR-HD700 PVR outputs a high definition signal further enhances the contemporary look of Sony’s latest PVR, earning for itself another plus in our DVD recorder ratings.
The remote control has an impressive design. Sony highlighted the remote’s most important functions with effective color coding including three large black buttons that represent significant shortcuts to the System Menu, Title List and the Electronic Program Guide.
This Sony’s PVR’s star feature is the twin HD tuners. These enable users to record two channels at a time or watch a channel while recording another. These twin tuners of the Sony SCR-HD700 also support a chock-full of 1080i HD resolution. So anytime a mandate calling for a switch to HDTV becomes final, your Sony SCR-HD700 is ready.
Sony’s latest PVR also comes with a 160GB hard drive for storing recordings, however, DVD recorder ratings took a nose-dive with the lack of a USB Port that will not enable you to pull recordings off the Sony SVR-HD700 and transfer them to an external device. You also will not be able to upload pictures and videos from your PC to view on your TV either.
Installing the Sony SVR-HD700 is incredibly easy and so is its software configuration. When it comes to recording shows, Sony’s latest PVR lets you choose between three methods: setting the timer, straight from the EPG or one-touch recording. Recordings can be “protected” to prevent them from being accidentally deleted.
While the recording process was spontaneous enough, the menu interface, with its one-second delay when scrolling between programs on the EPG, scored lesser in our DVD recorder ratings. The quality of the recorded shows was almost similar to that of the source version but minor pixilation could be seen when sitting up close. Not that good for DVD recorder ratings either.
Conclusion :DVD recorder ratings for Sony SVR-HD700 were high enough for this PVR to come highly recommended to high-end PVR buyers.
