A Closer Look at Panasonic’s Blu-Ray DVD Player the DMP-BD10

(Reviewed 10/16/06) Samsung claimed the blu-ray DVD Player throne as the first player in the market. You might want to think about which format, if any at this time, is right for you. HD-DVD vs Blu-ray ?

Blu-ray players from Sony, Philips and Samsung have lower price tags. Despite being late to enter into the blu-ray player scene and carrying a hefty price tag that is $300 more than the $1000 players of the aforementioned brands, Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 is undaunted.

Sure, Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 may not play video games like the Sony Playstation 3 but if you are looking for a “serious minded” movie player, Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 should be right up your alley.

Blu-Ray DVD Player and Its Perks

Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 player enjoys a few more advantages than its counterpart - HD-DVD and Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 is no exception. Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 blu-ray, like many other brands of blu-ray players, boasts the ability to output high definition TV’s 1080p resolution with the use of the HDMI jack superseding the 1080i resolution delivered by first generation HD-DVD decks.

While 1080p is the cutting edge when it comes to having a blu-ray DVD player, in reality, it is really not such a huge deal since even the few 1080p resolution sets that are capable of accepting and displaying 1080p input will give you a hard time distinguishing between 1080i and 1080p sources.

Panasonic’s DMP-BD10—One Great Player?

However, Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 has promised to come equipped with an exclusive feature and that is the EX-Sync KDAVI control function. A spin on Panasonic’s CEC (consumer electric control capability), the EX-Sync KDAVI control function of Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 will provide Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 the capability to connect and control multiple HDMI products with a single remote.

Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 blu-ray player—offers a free firmware upgrade that will give the player the ability to decode the greatest and latest high-fidelity Blu-ray soundtracks of DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD.

But while Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 may indeed look promising, this player does have one downside and a hefty one at that… the price tag. A 30 percent premium over what most blu-ray DVD player brands are selling for.

Conclusion If you are really thinking of getting Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 blu-ray DVD player for yourself, you might want to ask yourself if you’re willing to shell out that much cash for a blu-ray player. After all, we are still in the early days of blu-ray format; a blu-ray DVD player may be the in thing right now, but it might go obsolete if blu-ray format goes down the tubes.

With many blu-ray players already out there with more features than Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 (and cost a lot less)…well, who really cares if the company has a long experience with DVD? Better hold on to your money… unless you really have that much money to shell.
