The Panasonic DMR E85 DVD recorder might be the premier machine today.

That’s about 11 straight days--of video programming in EP mode. Of course this DVD recorder has the hallmark time-shifted TV viewing abilities that Panasonic is famous for. This DVD recorder allows you to archive your home movies to long-lasting DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs.

I've always been a big believer in Consumer Reports magazine and generally follow their recommendations. They're always looking out for you the consumer.
